European literature plus the magic of Prague

Contemporary European literature, famous Czech personalities, the magic of Prague. All of this was on offer on 11 May 2011 during the fifth annual literary event THE LITERATURE NIGHT, which presented the best of contemporary European literary scene, and uncovered the magic of large and small literatures. During one evening Czech celebrities read excerpts from new translations of works by European authors in attractive and generally inaccessible places in Prague.
 
EUNIC with the Czech Centres as driving force presented the very best of the literatures from the following countries: Belgium – Flanders and Wallonia-Brussels, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Norway, Austria, Romania, Spain, Sweden and Great Britain. Guests of this year's Literature Night were the countries of North America, Canada and the USA. Each institute involved in the event presented the work of one author in his new translation into Czech.
 
The place of the Literature Night was this year in Prague’s district of Liben. Literature Night 2010 preceded the opening of the biggest book festival in the Czech Republic. The audience had the opportunity to meet the authors selected for the Literature Night on various stands of the Book World 2011.  
 
Main partners were ČSOB, the Book World fair, Theatre Pod Palmovkou and Labyrint magazine.
 
Czech Centres in Bratislava lead EUNIC in Slovakia to run the Literature Night. Two other cities in Slovakia will join as well – Zilina and Banska Bystrica.
Another cities joining the project were Budapest and Dublin.
